The Todgha Valley

Discover the Todgha Valley, an exceptional setting to venture off the beaten track! While walking in the heart of this immense oasis you will encounter breathtaking landscapes of canyons and green gorges. Located at about fifty kilometers from the Dades gorges, the valley spreads out between the High Atlas to the north and the Saghro djebel to the south. It has preserved many ksours and kasbahs, which stretch along the wadi, in the middle of date palms and herds of sheep and goats, the only wealth of the inhabitants.

Excursions in the Gorges of Todgha

  • Venture to the bottom of the gorges to the banks of the river. Numerous tracks will lead you to the feet of vertiginous cliffs, along the canyons. While hiking in the area, you will meet the shepherds of Todra and many nomadic tribes. You will also be able to capture precious images of the many species of birds that inhabit the region, including eagles and doves.
  • If you are lucky enough to have a vehicle, you can climb a track to Tamtetoucht. This small Berber village stretches on a green plateau, above the Todgha gorges: the landscape up there is absolutely grandiose! From there, a beautiful excursion in 4X4 will take you to the heart of the Dades valley. Go in the direction of M'Semrir, you will cross a breathtaking mineral landscape until the pass of Aguerd N'Zegzdoun (2600m). From M'Semrir you can follow the road down to the bottom of the Dades gorges, to Boumalne Dades in 1 hour (60km).
  • From M'Semrir you can also choose to go north towards the village of Imilchil, on the summits of the High Atlas (2200m). It takes about 6 hours of driving, but you will be rewarded once you get there: the region is home to landscapes as spectacular as they are varied, between snow-covered mountains, lakes and forests... From there you can take the road to Agoudal through the Tizi N'Ouano pass, which will allow you to reach Tinghir.

Practical information

The Todgha Valley is located about 180 km northeast of Ouarzazate. To take full advantage of the excursions in the gorges, we advise you to rent a 4×4.
